SunExpress Airlines has signed a five-year engine maintenance agreement with Lufthansa Technik to support the airline’s growing Boeing 737 fleet. The agreement covers comprehensive engine maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services for both CFM56-7B engines used on Boeing 737-800 aircraft and LEAP-1B engines powering the newer Boeing 737-8 aircraft.
The contracts were signed at SunExpress’ headquarters in Antalya and reflect the airline’s strategy to maintain high levels of fleet reliability while supporting its ongoing fleet expansion. Under the agreement, Lufthansa Technik will provide a full range of engine services, including repairs, quick-turn maintenance, performance restoration and complete engine overhaul shop visits.
Most of the maintenance work will be carried out at Lufthansa Technik’s specialized engine facilities in Hamburg, Germany, which are equipped to handle both legacy and next-generation Boeing 737 engine types. The first engines under the new contract are expected to enter maintenance in Hamburg during the first quarter of the agreement.
To support additional maintenance capacity when required, Lufthansa Technik’s joint venture XEOS engine facility in Poland may also be utilized for engine services related to the SunExpress fleet.
SunExpress leadership noted that the partnership ensures consistent reliability and operational performance across the airline’s Boeing 737 fleet. By covering both the widely used CFM56-7B engines and the newer LEAP-1B engines, the agreement supports the airline’s transition to newer aircraft while maintaining strong maintenance support for its existing fleet.
Lufthansa Technik highlighted that while the aviation industry is steadily transitioning to new-generation engines such as the LEAP-1B, the CFM56-7B engine continues to generate strong demand for MRO services. The company’s experience with both engine types enables it to provide comprehensive support across different generations of Boeing 737 powerplants.
The long-term agreement builds on previous cooperation between the two companies. In 2024, Lufthansa Technik supported SunExpress with troubleshooting services and engine performance restoration work on a CFM56-7B engine. The partnership also extends to other areas of technical operations, including the supply of consumables and expendables.
Additionally, SunExpress utilizes the AMOS maintenance and engineering software platform, which forms part of Lufthansa Technik’s Digital Tech Ops ecosystem, supporting efficient technical management and maintenance planning.
