Rolls-Royce Expands Global Engine MRO Network with BAESL Facility in Beijing

Rolls-Royce has officially inaugurated Beijing Aero Engine Services Limited (BAESL), a new engine maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) joint venture established with Air China in Beijing. The facility represents a major step in expanding Rolls-Royce’s global aftermarket support network and addressing the rising demand for widebody engine maintenance in one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets.

BAESL is the first dedicated Trent engine overhaul facility located in mainland China, strengthening Rolls-Royce’s ability to provide localized support for airline customers operating widebody aircraft across the region. The new facility forms an important part of the company’s long-term strategy to expand global engine maintenance capacity and improve service accessibility for operators.

During the official opening ceremony, the Civil Aviation Administration of China awarded BAESL its Maintenance Organisation Certificate (MOC), confirming the facility’s readiness to perform certified engine overhaul services. The event also marked the arrival of the first customer engine entering the shop, signaling the start of full operational capability.

The launch ceremony brought together representatives from Rolls-Royce, Air China, government officials, aviation industry partners, suppliers and customers, highlighting the strategic importance of the new facility within the global aviation maintenance ecosystem.

According to Rolls-Royce leadership, the BAESL facility supports the company’s long-term growth plans in China while contributing to its broader ambition to significantly expand global MRO capacity by 2030. China continues to represent one of the most important markets for widebody aircraft operations, with increasing passenger demand, fleet expansion and rising flying hours driving the need for more engine maintenance shop visits.

Rolls-Royce currently powers more than 500 commercial aircraft operating in China, and nearly one-fifth of its global Trent engine deliveries have been made to Chinese operators. As airlines modernize fleets and increase long-haul operations, demand for engine overhaul services is expected to rise substantially.

Through its partnership with Air China, the BAESL venture also strengthens collaboration between the two organizations. The new facility enhances Air China’s ability to support its fleet with advanced engine maintenance capabilities while reinforcing Rolls-Royce’s global aftermarket service network.

The establishment of BAESL reflects a broader industry trend of expanding regional MRO infrastructure to support the growing global fleet and ensure airlines maintain operational reliability and efficiency.
